Wayne M. Peterson [Chief Operating Officer] earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Master Degree in Business from Metropolitan State University in Minnesota. Mr. Peterson is also a Certified Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers and certified in Industrial Energy System by the Hennepin County Vocational Technical Center. Mr. Peterson started as an Energy Consultant with Michaud Cooley Erickson in 1979 and was a Field Auditor for the Federal Funded Energy Conservation Grant program. He audited and developed energy conservation measures for Stillwater State Prison, Minneapolis/St. Paul Public Schools and industrial accounts such as 3M and Brown Photo as well as Fairview Hospitals and Riverview High Rise Condominiums.
In 1982 Mr. Peterson moved to Telmart Systems Inc. as Director of Energy Management. There he performed energy management feasibility studies/training and project management for Continental Telephone Company in Illinois and Washington and United Telephone Company in Ohio as well as hundreds of commercial industrial projects. Telmart Systems Inc. built and sold automation equipment and represented Technology 80 companies in Plymouth, MN and Sparten Technologies in Rio Rancho, NM.
In 1984 Mr. Peterson joined SM Engineering Co. as Senior Staff Engineering. He worked on a variety of projects in the Midwest with regard to energy audits and utility rate analysis and installation of boiler controls by Tour & Anderson. Mr. Peterson also published several Technical Papers for the Minnesota Multi Housing Association on boiler operations.
In 1987 Mr. Peterson joined Direct Digital Controls in MN representing Alerton Technologies of Bellevue, WA. Mr. Peterson’s role as estimator and project manager for a union electrical shop involved with Automatic Temperature Controls and Building Automation for such projects as a new 36 story high-rise in Minneapolis, the Abbott Hospital Heart Lung Transplant wing, United Health Services building, Con Agra Corporate campus in Omaha, NE and Opus managed buildings. The BAS control system was leading edge technology at that time with interface of pneumatic to DDC control of VAV boxes and 100% DDC control of Heat Pumps and Boiler Room equipment.
In 1991 Mr. Peterson rejoined SM Engineering Co. as V.P. of Engineering. Here he has conducted utility audits for companies such as Boeing Aircraft, IBM, Ford as well as numerous other manufacturing facilities. In 1998 Mr. Peterson became Chief Operating Officer of the company. He continues to do field audits and negotiate lower rates for their clients. Mr. Peterson was a featured speaker at the Refractors Institute in Pittsburgh, PA in 1996 and has been a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers since 1982.
